Hi, this is Catherine Wanjiru. Catherine is from central Kenya where it’s difficult to make a living.

Central Kenya is safari country. There are hotels and safari clubs in the area, but they pay local Kenyan workers extremely low wages. For instance, working 12 hour shifts 6 days a week in hotel kitchens pay less than $100 a month!

They only get paid around once a month and sometimes they don’t get paid at all!! It’s terrible. The average salary for kitchen workers and housekeeping staff in that area is less than .50 cents per hour.

But Catherine is a true entrepreneur and has a prime location for a take-out food booth making popular local foods.

It’s a bustling, high traffic area where people come every day to buy their take-away food, so by selling popular food items, she estimates she can make around $30-$50 a day.

That would be very good!

She’s already paid six months rent to secure the restaurant booth as of May 2018.
